Snow topped hills

The day had come, to the World Mountain bike Championships we headed. After a long wait at Sydney airport due to the time it took for the other guys to get from the domestic terminal to the international terminal we finally met up and later left Sydney on our trip to Italy.

This was not just a trip to the Worlds for me but it was the first time I had ever been overseas. I had an idea of what it may be like in Italy from the stories of other but I really had a lot to look forward too ahead of me. The plan was to fly from Sydney to Rome via Kuala-Lumpa in Malaysia, from Rome we were to catch another plane from Rome to Verona.

More snow topped hills

I had the idea of the plane trip being relaxing and a good time to catch up on some missed sleep, and to grab some free food on the flight. To my surprise it was the complete opposite. I got no sleep, probably because it was an unusually stuffy environment that I wasn’t use too. I had also got the relaxing part wrong as well; because I got no sleep I was restless and was getting very uncomfortable after 12 hours of flying. The food was also not the best I had tasted as you could imagine. By the end of the flight we were all happy to be on hard ground again.

The hotel in which the whole Australian team is staying in

From Verona airport we headed to Val di Sole in a 9 seater van. It was a really big squeeze, not only did 7 of us need to fit in the van but 7 bikes and bags for each of us had to also fit. It was tight!

After travelling through the most spectacular country side and small towns we got to our hotel. The surroundings were amazing; hills topped with snow, mountain bigger than I had ever seen and even a few old castle remains scattered around.

The hotel was amazing, it was only 3 star but awesome none the less. The veranda view was unbelievable; I had never seen such a place.
